Crisp Thinking describes itself as an 'online child protection specialist', so it's not surprising to see it setting its sights on the virtual worlds sector. Its NetModerator chat-monitoring technology has just been signed up by virtual world Xivio.
The technology can be deployed to foil all manner of unwanted behaviour, including bullying and sexual predators. Xivio actually has its own set of moderation tools, as well as a zone for parents and a content rating system.
However, the company clearly felt it had to look externally for more complex chat monitoring and moderation technology – something that’s expensive to develop in-house.
Parents are increasingly savvy about their children’s use of virtual worlds, and keen to understand exactly how their kids will be protected while using them. It’s good news for companies like Crisp Thinking touting this kind of technology, especially if their customers then promote the fact that they’re using it in order to reassure parents.
