Worlds.com nabs Google exec in advance of new virtual worlds platform launch

Worlds.com was one of the original pioneers in the virtual worlds space, although the company has seen its thunder well and truly stolen by Second Life and other companies in the years since. However, it's planning a comeback, and has just recruited Google's Thomas Duterme as a non-executive board member to help.

Duterme’s role at Google concerns “new business opportunities”, so his involvement with Worlds is interesting, given the rumours around Google’s own plans to launch a virtual world.

Worlds says its new platform will include a new rendering engine and micro-economy platform, allowing users to also build their own virtual worlds on a P2P network. CEO Thom Kidrin says Duterme will also be important for the company’s planned international expansion:

“Tom’s addition to the board adds a new perspective and strategic position for the Company. Tom’s broad knowledge and experience in China will add insight and value to an explosive growth market that Worlds is preparing to enter. Tom has a unique understanding of how the 3D market is evolving as well as exposure to new business opportunities that will enhance Worlds value proposition in the expansion and development of 3D virtual worlds.”
