Virtual worlds firm Worlds has announced plans to launch a virtual world in partnership with Darryl McDaniels - otherwise known as DMC out of hip-hop pioneers Run DMC. The world will be called DMC World, although that name may run into problems, given that it's already used for a popular DJ online community.
Still, McDaniels’ world will presumably be powered by Worlds’ new platform, which is due to launch soon. McDaniels is closely involved with the creative side of DMC World, as he explains:
“We broke new ground with Run-D.M.C., and I continually look to get involved with new concepts in entertainment. Virtual worlds are on the forefront of social media and entertainment, so my friends - I consider all my fans ‘friends’ - should be able to experience ‘everything D.M.C.’ in the most innovative immersive 3D virtual environment available.”
It’d be one of the first virtual worlds targeted specifically at hip-hop fans. One question is over the choice of artist. Run DMC are certainly well respected, but are they big among the younger fans who might be most interested in a hip-hop virtual world? Perhaps Worlds will use this as a base to launch more worlds with younger rappers in the future.
