WeeMee users creating 600,000 avatars a month

VentureBeat has a catchup with UK-based WeeWorld, which says its users are now creating more than 600,000 WeeMee avatars a month, and that the grand total since its technology launched three years ago is 21 million. It's interesting how companies often focus on number of avatars (Habbo is the same) rather than unique users - it'd be interesting to see stats on how many avatars the average user creates.

Anyway, although the WeeMee’s started off as standalone avatars for instant messaging, but it’s since created a spin-off virtual world, WeeWorld. Interesting to see the company in direct competition with Habbo for promotions with music artists - Alicia Keys and Avril Lavigne have both featured in recent promotions with WeeWorld, with Keys’ new video being made available as a background for users rooms within the world, and plans to sell virtual pianos, t-shirts and CDs.

Apparently more than 400,000 Lavigne-related items were downloaded in that promotion. The average age of WeeWorld users is 19, with the largest group apparently clustered around the 16-year-old mark. According to VentureBeat, the company is now looking for funding to continue its expansion.
