Over at New World Notes, Wagner James Au has been surveying his readers on the question of whether Linden Lab will announce plans for an IPO in the next 18 months. It's based on the recent developments, with CEO Philip Rosedale stepping down. And the readers say...
Well, they’re split. 45% of respondents say yes, Linden Lab will IPO within 18 months, while 31.1% say it won’t, and 23.8% aren’t sure. Interestingly, apparently the yes camp had a majority in the first week of the poll, but that shifted in the last few days.
Of course, whether Linden Lab does IPO doesn’t just depend on the development of Second Life and the firm’s search for a new CEO. The current global financial crunch is also likely to be a factor affecting all potential IPOs, if investors lose confidence. I guess that would put me in the Not Sure camp then…
