Trilogy Studios snaps up Stolar for advisory role

Comments [0] | 30 November 2007

Virtual worlds and MMO developer Trilogy Studios has appointed Bernie Stolar to its board of advisors. It's a significant move, since Stolar has worked in the games industry for more than 30 years, including posts at Atari, Mattel Interactive and Sony Computer Entertainment America. He was also president of Sega America at the time of the ill-fated Dreamcast console. Trilogy is clearly ramping up for big things, having recently secured $3.2 million of equity funding. Recent projects include MTV Networks' Pimp My Ride virtual world. The appointment is interesting for two reasons. First, it's further proof of the increasing crossover between virtual worlds and games - with a company with its roots in the former space bringing in a heavyweight executive from the latter. Secondly, though, Stolar's most recent advisory role also has intriguing implications. In 2005, he began advising in-game advertising firm Adscape Media, which was bought by Google this year and renamed AdSense for Games as part of Google's push into the in-game advertising market. With the topic of advertising within virtual worlds and MMOs a live one, Trilogy will surely be drawing on Stolar's experience in that space. Trilogy Studios website
