This isn't news as such, more a useful tip for anyone trying to keep track of what's hot in the rapidly-evolving virtual worlds space. A website called Summize lets you search for specific words or phrases on Twitter in real-time, to see what people are twittering about a given subject. The results can often lead you off to worlds or articles before they break big online.
For example, a search for “virtual worlds” today has led me off to a piece on some new Japanese research into controlling virtual worlds via brainwave, something on teaching molecular physics in Second Life, and a promotional virtual world called Spicyside.
Summize searches for “Second Life” or “Habbo” throw up equally interesting links, as well as a sense of what people are saying about these worlds right now. You can even turn these search queries into RSS feeds to be accessed in Bloglines, Google Reader or whatever you’re using to keep track of existing sites.
Anyway, that’s a useful tip for Tuesday afternoon!
