Real-world tourism meets virtuality in the Discover Ireland festival, a three-day event taking place at Dublin in SL. Five bands and seven DJs will be playing, alongside fashion shows, photographic exhibitions and promotional videos, with the obligatory free t-shirts being given out to visitors.
The Guardian makes the point that Tourism Ireland, the Irish tourist board, isn't the first to set up shop within Second Life, having been beaten to the punch by Sweden and the Netherlands. Of course, virtual pints of Guinness can't hope to live up to the real thing, but there'll hopefully be enough craic going round to deliver a return on Tourism Ireland's investment - presumably in the form of Second Lifers packing their bags to visit the real Dublin.
