Sony shows off Media And Events Space in Home PS3 world

Comments [0] | 28 May 2008

Sony's Home virtual world for PlayStation 3 might not have opened to the public fully, but the company has nevertheless unveiled a new area to its closed beta test users. It's called the Media And Events Space, and will seemingly be used for virtual mirroring of Sony's real-world press launches.

The debut of the space was last week, with a virtual version of Sony’s recent PlayStation Day 2008 - a real-world event to show off new PS3 and PSP games to the media. Producer Martijn Van Der Meulen seems pleased with the test:

“As well as looking great, the Media and Events Space is flexible and user-friendly - it’s a real focal point for our virtual community. This was a very exciting first event and we’ve already received plenty of great feedback.”

The interesting thing is that this space lets Sony bring PS3 gamers into its launches, rather than rely on the media as a filter. It’s not cutting the journalists out of the loop at all, but the ability to open up such press events to the wider public is clearly appealing.
