Virtual marketing firm Avatar Promotions has created a Second Life version of Dealey Plaza, the Dallas street where President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. The company plans to hold a re-enactment of the event on its anniversary next week: an invitation-only event to which 40 people will be invited. Lead consultant Jason Baird hopes the virtual version will become a magnet to conspiracy theorists:
"Most of the internet is 2 dimensional. This version of Dealey Plaza is the next best thing to being there in person. Second Life allows other people with interest in the assassination to text chat or speak via voice over IP to everyone else in the simulation at the same time. It is just like being there, but not only can you walk around the area with your friends, you also can fly above it. I jokingly tell people that it won't be long before people start showing up to give tours of the area for tips just like in real life."You can imagine how interesting this sort of build would be for anyone studying the assassination too, although education doesn't appear to be the prime goal of the project. And yes, before you ask, there IS a grassy knoll in the build: that's me standing on it in the screengrab above. Avatar Promotions' JFK website
