Second Life sees strong engagement growth in the UK

Nielsen Online has released some stats on the most popular websites in the UK, but also the fastest growing ones in terms of total minutes. Two virtual worlds make it into the top ten of the latter chart. Read on to find out which...

The chart measures total UK minutes in May 2007 and May 2008, and tracks the growth between the two. Facebook and YouTube come first and second, but then in third place it’s Second Life, which totalled 125 million minutes of usage in the UK in May 2007, but grew 137% to 296 million minutes in May 2008.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Club Penguin comes in ninth, growing from 23 million minutes to 42 million minutes in the same period – growth of 82%. Nielsen’s decision to refer to Second Life as a ‘game’ is somewhat puzzling, but nevertheless, it’s good news for Linden Lab in particular, which is clearly engaging more UK users.
