Toyota subsidiary Scion has been working within Makena Technologies' There.com virtual world for a while now, with its own Club Scion nightclub. It's obviously delivered on the car manufacturer's expectations, because the company has announced plans to expand its in-world activities to include more user-generated content.
To be specific, Scion wants There.com users to create their own designs for the exterior of its virtual venue, although there'll be a submission process to ensure nobody gets cheeky and draws a 100-foot Volvo. Club Scion creator Metaversatility is working with Scion and Makena on the new campaign.
Meanwhile, There.com users will also soon be driving their own virtual Scions around the world, courtesy of a deal between Makena and Trilogy Studios. They'll be able to build, buy and sell customised versions of the Scion xD, xB and tC models. It's a neat idea that goes beyond just flogging virtual cars, tapping into users' creativity.
