The University of Worcester's Colin Price has come up with a new form of presentations that (I hope) someone uses at this year's Virtual Worlds Forum! It involves embedding PowerPoint presentations into first-person-shooter game Unreal Tournament.
“The educator can deposit pre-prepared PPT slides onto the walls of a room, or onto objects within that room,” says Price in his paper Unreal PowerPoint: Immersing PowerPoint presentations in a virtual computer game engine world.
I assume viewers can’t set about slides they disagree with using a railgun (although having sat through my fair share of dull PowerPoint presentations, it’s not a bad idea...). Anyway, the research investigates whether this method of presentation is more immersive than traditional 2D projections - a question that’s also being explored by other corporate virtual worlds platforms.
