PlayStation boss “not satisfied” with Home virtual world

Comments [0] | 8 November 2007

Sony already announced that the commercial launch of its Home virtual world for PlayStation 3 has been delayed from this month until Spring next year, but more information has filtered out about the reasons behind the delay. Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO Kaz Hirai has given an interview in which he addresses the delay:
"If anything, we believe the delay would have a positive effect. I personally am not satisfied with the current version of Home. This is a very big project for the PS3 and we want to make sure that we deliver to our hearts content. We hope everyone will look forward to its spring release next year."
Home is set to be one of the most high-profile - and potentially massmarket - virtual worlds, so it's a positive sign to see that its quality is being considered at the highest level of SCEE. However, the danger is that anticipation of Home's launch may fizzle out during the delay, while it's valid also to wonder what exactly Hirai isn't satisfied with, since Home has been live in beta for several months now.
