Online entertainment studio Pileated Pictures has announced plans for a new virtual world aimed at teens and tweens, called Planet Cazmo. Well, I say plans - it's actually been in open beta since December, although with no publicity at all around it - just word-of-mouth growth. "Just a couple blog posts on a popular Club Penguin forum generated a wave of viral energy," says president Michael Levine.
According to Levine, within 48 hours of that initial promotion, there were thousands of people registered with Planet Cazmo, and a bunch of blogs discussing it. Pileated now claims nearly hundreds of thousands of unique users from 94 countries. The first commercial release of the world is due in the second quarter of this year. Here’s a video:
Meanwhile, Pileated has also rolled out an update for Hasbro’s Littlest Pet Shop VIPs virtual world, making it accessible in nine languages, and adding new pets, activities and games. More new features are planned for the months ahead.
