The headlines may have been in consumer usage of virtual worlds in the last couple of years, but there's an emerging sense that there could be genuine value in corporate use of virtual worlds. Now, the Association of Virtual Worlds has published its first Business Guide to Virtual Worlds, which claims to list more than 30 solutions, vendors and providers helping businesses go virtual.
The publication will be welcome at a time when many businesses realise there may be benefits in virtual worlds, but aren’t quite sure how to make use of them. AVW executive director Dave Elchoness explains:
“The Internet has changed the way businesses and organizations attract and educate customers, recruit and train their staffs and promote their brands, products and services. The next evolution of the Internet is Web 3D--an Internet that transforms the web from ‘sites’ to ‘places’ where users can ‘see’ each other, interact together, and experience products and services in 3D. An Internet where engagement feels like real life is rapidly taking shape. As a former global executive and HR attorney, I am passionate about the promise of web 3D and know that it will transform how business is done on many levels.”
The Association has previously published The Blue Book: A Consumer Guide to Virtual Worlds, but something tells me there’s probably more money in a business-focused publication…
