MyMiniLife lets users turn photos into virtual objects

Comments [0] | 20 March 2008

This is truly exciting. Virtual world MyMiniLife has introduced a new feature that lets people take digital photos of furniture or objects, and then turn them into virtual versions to use inside MyMiniLife. The idea presumably is to give people more personalisation options, even if they don't have the time or inclination to create objects themselves. The video above shows how it works.

There is a downside, since users will need to be fairly handy with a photo-editing application to remove backgrounds and layer in transparency (in other words, anyone to whom the words ‘layer in transparency’ mean nothing will be stumped). Mashable reports that in time, MyMiniLife may automate these parts of the process, to make it more accessible.

It’ll only appeal to people who are keen to make their virtual world reflect the real world, of course. But it’s a fascinating idea: the notion that you could be on holiday, or round a friend’s house, and would be constantly on the lookout for cool or interesting objects to digitally acquire for your MyMiniLife. The ability to then sell these objects using the company’s commerce platform is even more intriguing…
