When it was announced earlier this week, Google Lively seemed to be focused on people's own personal virtual rooms, rather than branded rooms. However, it seems the latter has just as much of a role to play in Lively's future, with the announcement that the National Geographic Channel has launched its own Lively space, created by virtual agency Millions Of Us.
It’s called National Geographic Channel’s LA Hard Hats, and it’s based on the TV show of the same name (LA Hard Hats), which has a new series beginning early next month in the US. The show follows a construction crew as they build a new skyscraper in Los Angeles, so the Lively experience has been designed to tie in with that theme.
Better still, visitors can nick the code for the LA Hard Hats room and use it to tweak their own, if their virtual home is missing a certain construction element. It’s another sign of Millions Of Us’ strategy to diversify beyond Second Life to new virtual worlds, although it’s not the only virtual agency to be working within Lively - apparently Rivers Run Red is too. It’ll be interesting to see how the National Geographic Channel promotes its new Lively room online, to ensure it’s buzzing with visitors.
