Virtual worlds firm Metaversum has created a city called Bitropolis within its Twinity virtual world, to promote this year's Bitfilm festival. The event showcases the latest digital films and animations, but it's the first time it's had a presence in a virtual world too.
Bitropolis will house a virtual cinema, art gallery and bar, enabling people to watch the participating films, and then chat about them afterwards. Metaversum is also renting out ‘studio cubes’ within the city for filmmakers and animators to show off their own work, even if they’re not part of the festival itself. Metaversum CMO Dr Mirko Caspar explains:
“Bitropolis is a wonderful example of the vision that we are pursuing with the virtual world Twinity. Real events, such as the Bitfilm Festival in Stuttgart and Hamburg, are given a whole new dimension when they are transferred into a virtual world. We thus enable users from all around the world to take part in the festival and experience the best featured films.”
The event runs until 12 July. Bitropolis is a good example of how virtual worlds can be used as showcases for film and digital content, as well as the interactions that go on around it. Find out more at the official website.
