Sanrio is launching a Hello Kitty MMOG - something I would say was aimed at kids, if I didn't know about 17 adults who are crazy for the cutesy cat character. The game is in closed beta at the moment, although it's apparently in "the final stage of development", according to its official website.
Locations include London, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow and the Flower Kingdom, and the game appears to be storyline based. More features according to the blurb: “Players get to choose and customise their character, build their dream houses, cultivate their own farms, set up guilds, earn and spend Kitty Dollars around the vast Hello Kitty game world, and interact with their favourite Sanrio characters.”
Check that reference to guilds. It seems that Hello Kitty Online has been developed with some pretty hardcore MMORPG features, although I’d question whether it’ll tempt people away from World of Warcraft and the like.
The link to the official website is below, including more screenshots here. Be warned, the theme tune will make you want to gnaw your own ears off after five minutes or so. But the game itself looks truly intriguing.
