Despite long silence, Duran Duran still planning Second Life launch

Comments [0] | 9 May 2008

Whatever happened to Duran Duran's plans to make a splash in Second Life? The band were planning their own island and a high-profile concert, garnering plenty of press coverage for their forward-thinking when the plans were announced back in August 2006. Yet since then... nothing. However, it seems they haven't abandoned the idea.

Band member Nick Rhodes has been talking about the plans, responding to a question about the mooted in-world gig:

“We still haven’t done that, but we’ll finally launch our Second Life universe. It’s in testing at the moment. We’ve designed a whole universe, and I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to hear that our most giant building is a lipstick tower. There’s always something going on.”

The news is sure to please Duran Duran’s fans within Second Life, of which there are a fair few judging by the buzz around the original announcement. There’s no news on an actual launch date for the island, though.
