Depo Consulting teams with Galleryica for Ten Cubed gallery in Second Life

Virtual branding agency Depo Consulting is launching an art gallery in Second Life. It's called Ten Cubed, and has been developed in partnership with Irish art firm Galleryica, while architect Bennet Dunkley is responsible for its design. Ten Cubed launches officially on 31 January, with an exhibition featuring artists Chris Ashley, Scott Kildall and Nathaniel Stern.

Galleryica boss Haudn Shaughnessy explains the motivation:
"When we set out to create a usable online exhibition space. We quickly became aware of the need for real life design values. Bennet Dunkley has created an extraordinary space for us, one that virtual users feel especially motivated to move around in and to view objects. It's a real breakthrough in how online spaces or the 3D Internet will be used."
Meanwhile, Depo Consulting hopes the gallery will show how virtual worlds can "complement and substitute for" exhibitions and trade shows. Apparently Ten Cubed has been designed to house large artworks as well as more traditional collections. Depo boss Peter Dunkley is certainly bullish:
"With Ten Cubed we want to show the gallery world - museums, galleries and exhibition space of all kinds - what high quality design can achieve in the way of improving on functional performance of galleries. Ten Cubed is not just a virtual gallery that allows virtual exhibition, its design is superlative at showcasing art work. Most virtual galleries are like your average website, poorly designed without any sense of optimising a visitor's experience. Ten Cubed has been designed by a professional architect to exploit fully the showcasing opportunities of the virtual medium."
It'll certainly be worth dropping in for the launch, via the SLurl below. Ten Cubed gallery
