It's not just Habbo Hotel that's looking to leverage music stars to increase awareness of virtual worlds. US toy firm Build-A-Bear has cut a deal bringing exclusive backstage footage from the Hannah Montana 'Best of Both Worlds' gigs to its Buildabearville virtual world for the next month.
The toy angle means getting access to this is slightly complicated. Anyone spending $15 or more in a Build-A-Bear Workshop store between now and May 15 will get a code allowing them to watch the backstage footage on Buildabearville, while also getting a virtual guitar for their avatar.
Meanwhile, Build-A-Bear is also strengthening the links between its real-world retail outlets and its virtual world. On April 24, it’ll open its Bear Boutique within the world, which will be used to present users with exclusive virtual fashions and accessories when they buy them in the real-world stores. It’ll be the only way they can buy clothes for their bear avatars in the virtual world, while furniture for their virtual houses will also be sold there.
“While citizens are able to buy items in other areas of the world, they will only be able to access these unique fashions and accessories in the Bear Boutique with credits earned by shopping in our stores,” says founder Maxine Clark. “We are excited to add this new feature for our loyal Guests and to further build the connection between our real world stores and the virtual world experience.”
