US firm Blockdot has opened a gaming center in Second Life, offering a range of casual games for users to play and interact around. It's located on Asahi Advertising's G7 Island, and the games are taken from Blockdot's own Kewlbox web portal.
Besides being a step into the virtual world, the new gaming centre represents Blockdot’s expansion into the Japanese market, since it’s a joint venture with Asahi Advertising and another Japanese firm, Fivestar Interactive.
I’ve visited the installation, but with it being targeted at Japanese users, I can’t quite figure out how it works! Still, it’s an intriguing move, and one of the first examples of an existing web casual games company looking to offer its titles within Second Life. Again, you could argue there’d be a closer crossover with some more youth-focused virtual worlds, but nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see if Blockdot expands this initiative further in the future.
