Behind the Beanie Babes 2.0 virtual world

Virtual worlds studio Animax Entertainment has revealed that it's the company behind Ty Inc's new Beanie Babes 2.0 virtual world. It's a browser-based world that's free to access for anyone who's bought one of the tie-in plush Beanie Babes toys.

The world ticks all the cutting-edge boxes, blending multiplayer games and social networking with the traditional virtual world elements. A snippet of info for those of you focused on the technical side of virtual worlds - this one was built in Adobe Flash, AS3, although the back-end was developed by Tokenzone.

The fact that the world is built around a story-driven structure is interesting - Ty says this makes it more similar to MMOs, and I’m inclined to agree. It’s certainly something that should encourage loyalty among its userbase, rather than simply presenting them with the same world every time they log in.
