The BBC has been a big supporter of virtual worlds in the UK, not least with its Adventure Rock world, which has been high-profile in recent months. It seems the area will continue to be a priority for the UK broadcaster, judging by its annual programme policy statement (PDF link)
The relevant section is somewhat buried, but here it is:
“CBBC is a multi-platform brand and aims to enhance its online presence and reputation for innovation further by offering high levels of user interactivity and opportunities to consume and interact with content directly on the web. This year there will be a new series Tronji, combining the real world with a fully CGI-animated one, and MyCBBC will continue as a safe space for children to create and share content with friends, as will Adventure Rock, the downloadable world that children can explore on a PC at home.”
It’s interesting to see the BBC investigating the crossover potential with TV shows and virtual worlds - Tronji is certainly a project to keep tabs on.
