Imagine a robot version of Mitt Romney. Well, that's assuming Mitt himself isn't a robot, which is open to debate. But students at the University of Arkansas have been casting their minds forward to 2048, and the prospect of an all-android US presidential election. How? By creating their own android candidates - 'andidates' - in Second Life.
The nine students researched the graphic identity of the candidates for this year’s election, and use that to create visual identies for their andidates. They’ve all been presented in a series of booths on the University of Arkansas island in Second Life.
It’s interesting that virtual worlds haven’t played a big role in the real-world presidential campaign so far - no Second Life walkabouts for Obama or Hillary yet - but the University’s work at least shows the potential for virtual electioneering in the future. Do Furries qualify for a vote?
